We have supported the charity “Friends of the Animals Wales” since our first rescue Cocker Spaniel “Snoop” came into our lives in 2007. Snoop had been used as a stud dog in a puppy farm but was discarded after a growth on his eye needed treatment and he was surrendered to the charity. He recovered fully from surgery for his eye and although he had terrible separation anxiety he became my constant companion for 14 years. 

Bruce was the next spaniel to come into our lives again from the charity but sadly just 9 months later we lost him from bowel cancer.

We were very reluctant to take in another rescue spaniel as we were both heartbroken from losing Bruce. Then came  COVID !! The charity asked us to consider taking in a golden Cocker Spaniel whom they had named Freddie being fostered in South Wales. He too was used as a stud dog but threw the wrong colour puppies which didn’t sell and he too was discarded like a piece of rubbish. As a “welfare case” we were allowed to travel to Wales to potentially bring Freddie home with us. When we first saw Freddie he was the most shutdown, nervous and malnourished spaniel I had ever seen. I in particular had serious doubts if we were experienced enough to deal with his issues, but home he came that day in 2020.
